What is an EPD?

An EPD is documentation that reports a construction product’s environmental impact from raw material to waste. EPDs are based on a life cycle assessment and follow common rules within the same product category, making it easier to compare similar products. In addition, you can be confident that the information is both accurate and relevant, as an EPD must always comply with international standards (SS-EN 15804) and be third-party verified. Why is this important?

As a supplier, an EPD can be used to identify where in a product’s life cycle the greatest impact occurs, and then prioritize actions that make a real difference. This gives us the opportunity to reduce the climate footprint of future products and thereby develop more sustainable products and solutions. For you as a customer, it becomes easier to make conscious and more sustainable decisions. You receive clear and comparable information that helps ensure you meet the legal requirement for climate declarations for buildings. Moreover, the EPD supports other requirements, such as reporting according to the GHG Protocol, making it a valuable tool for sustainability work at multiple levels.
