Snow melting roofs for the city of Mölndal

Background

Bifrost Preschool in Mölndal, with its 14 departments and 4,200 square meters, is the largest preschool in Northern Europe. Scheduled to open in 2025, the preschool is part of Mölndal’s “Program Lyftet,” an educational initiative for “sustainable buildings that provide the best start to lifelong learning.” As part of this concept, the municipality of Mölndal selected Brion El to install snow melting systems in gutters and downpipes at Bifrost Preschool, the new Västerbergsskolan, and Almåsskolan’s Building C. The solution was installed proactively during the construction phase to ensure the outdoor areas of the schools remain safe.

Solution

Based on site plans from the consulting firm Vinnergi, Brion El chose Ebeco’s snow melting solution, which was designed by Ebeco. The system uses T-18 heating cables and Ebeco Smartclips, installed with temperature and humidity sensors to effectively prevent ice formation in gutters and downpipes while keeping energy consumption low.

Installation went very quickly since the cable is clipped into the gutters,

says Björn Guldbrandsson from Brion El. This made the installation process efficient, even though the work was divided into phases as construction progressed.

Result

The educational activities at the municipality’s new schools are now underway, and feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Brion El already sees major benefits in implementing similar solutions in future projects. Björn Guldbrandsson shares:
