Heating solution for Frigoscandia's sprinkler system

Frigoscandia, a leading player in refrigerated and frozen transport in the Nordic region, sought a reliable heating solution for their sprinkler system in the newly constructed cold storage facility in Mörarp, just outside Helsingborg. To meet this need, the sprinkler contractor BST and their contracted electrical installation firm Larsson & Karlsson Elinstallationer AB turned to Ebeco for a project-specific heating solution.

Challenge

The challenge was to secure the functionality of the sprinkler system in an environment where maintaining a specific temperature range in the cold storage is critical for the optimal preservation of the stored products. The sprinkler pipes had to be protected from the risk of freezing, which could lead to serious operational disruptions and safety hazards.

Solution

To meet Frigoscandia's specific needs and conditions, Ebeco provided a customized solution of heating cables and accessories that were installed on the sprinkler system. Over 6400 meters of the self-regulating heating cable ELSR-LS were used. The advantages of this heating cable include its capacity for long lengths, wide coverage area, and optimal power curve. Additionally, 324 Smartlock P quick connectors were installed, significantly reducing installation time. Three project-specific electricla enclosures with automatic switchover to the installed backup cables were also delivered. This ensured protection against the risk of freezing within the facility.

Project-specific adaptation

To ensure optimal functionality and energy efficiency, the system was designed with heating cables dimensioned according to Frigoscandia's specific needs and conditions. Project-specific power distribution and electrical enclosures were provided to manage the solution, allowing for constant and energy-efficient operation.
